Activities
As well as playing a big role in Rice Athletics, I have had leadership roles in academics and other organizations at Rice University. Being an international student has allowed me to pursue opportunities in the international department at Rice and has allowed me to share my culture with other students. I have also participated in fundraisers and other work opportunities outside of college to gain valuable skills that I would not gain in the sports world.

Undergraduate International Orientation Director
As one of two directors, my duties include interviewing and hiring a group of international advisors to work with us during next years orientation. We also organize events and activities for the new students and act as social facilitators in their first few days as part of the Rice University family. During training, we discuss situations that may occur with the new students, and find ways to navigate them so that our team is as prepared as possible.

Portuguese Language Consultant
I help undergraduate students with their grammar, communication, reading and writing skills in Portuguese, by organizing weekly meetings with them where we have conversations about topics that are covered in their Portuguese classes. I also give them feedback on their writing by going over their essays, and answer any questions they have about the Portuguese culture.
Event Organizer for Cancer Research
I helped a family friend organize a Cancer Research fundraiser at my High School. I assisted in setting up tables, chairs and name tags, and decorated the hall for the event. I communicated with around 150 guests appropriately and helped them find their table, and helped serve a three course meal too. I also checked in on the guests and attended to any surprise requests appropriately.
